It many wouldn't work any better with a core upgrade. I also see the i5 (quad core) uses a different socket then the i3.

Dell Inspiron N5010 Overheat Problems
Questions:
its been 4 months i bought Dell inspiron N5110 everything is working fine..but recently i'm having some heating problem.
1. Can anybody tell me how many fans are their in Dell inspiron N5110(with graphic card)?
2. Does environment temperature affect the laptop's temperature?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dell Inspiron 14Z Battery, Dell Inspiron 1525 Battery, Dell 1764 Battery
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answers:
The Inspiron N5110 has just one fan on the motherboard. Yes environment temperature does affect the laptops temperature. Thing you can try is clearing any dust from the air vents using a vacum. Try updating your Bios using the below link.
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/DriverFileFormats?DriverId=NV25H&FileId=2957351681&productCode=inspiron-15r-n5110&urlProductCode=False
You can also try running a diagnostics on your computer. Press the F12 key at the Dell Logo, select diagnostics and run an extended diagnostics on your computer. You can also run custom tests on selected devices like your fan to check if they are functioning properly. Post back with any error codes.

Dell Inspiron N5110 Bluetooth Problems
Questions:
I have recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 15r n5110 (approx 3 weeks ago)( dell inspiron n5110 battery). but i can not use the bluetooth. I downloaded the driver from Dell ( i'm sure the driver is correct because i downloaded using my service tag ) , but whenever i try to install , it say "Activate bluetooth using wireless switch" althought i have already turn the wireless on ( Fn + F2).
I tried to let windows install the driver it self but there is always an error called Code 43 : Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
After i uninstall the driver, on the device manager the bluetooth device is shown as unknow device.
So i use a software called : Driver Identifier and download a software call BlueSoleil , after installing this, everything seemed to be fine.
But it is just for look , nothing changed , i can not start the bluetooth device, and in the control panel it does not recognize any bluetooth device.

I purchased my Dell Inspiron Core i5 N5110 ( dell inspiron n5110 battery, dell laptop battery n5010, dell 15r batteries) a week ago. If once you get done installing your driver by choosing the wrong one, or not in proper order, you will have to reinstall your operating system because the Bluetooth driver once installed will not be uninstalled properly if you selected and installed the wrong driver. I installed my OS thrice then I came to know how should I install the OS and Drivers to make this machine 100% functional.
It might not be beneficial for someone but might be a complete solution for anyone, just try, my Wireless Driver problem, Bluetooth problem, PCI Simple Communication Controller error and mic problem were resolved by following the order of installation. There are almost approx 15 drivers that needs a restart of your machine, either asked or not, you should restart every time.
(All this is for Windows 7 x64 - Go to the Dell website and follow the order of the headings and the numbered order of the drivers - The procedure WORKED 100% FOR ME, there is no guarantee for the others)

Dell Inspiron Laptop - slow boot - Windows 7
Questions: I have a Dell Inspiron with 2.5 GHz processor and 4 GB of RAM. My version of Win 7 is 64-bit. I have done the following to try to speed up the boot:
- stopped/disabled unnecessary processes and startup programs
- updated all of my drivers
- updated all Win 7 files
Now, I cannot download Windows Update (I get error code 80246008 and I have checked to make sure Background Intelligence Transfer is on) AND every time I boot up my sound icon has a red "X" next to it, and so I have to troubleshoot that. I have no idea what sound card I have.

Solutions:
Step 1. Open Notepad
Step 2. Copy and paste the following command lines into the Notepad window (the /s switch runs the commands silently, freeing you from having to press Enter after each line):
regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll
Step 3. Save the file to your desktop, using a .bat or .cmd extension.
Step 4. Double-click the icon of the .bat or .cmd file.
Step 5. A command window will open, run the commands, and then close.

Dell Inspiron n5010 Blue Screen Problems
Dell Inspiron n5010 Blue Screen Problems
Questions
I have a Dell Inspiron n5010 (dell batteries for inspiron n5010) that has been used for about half a year. I have Windows 7 on it and it has just brought up the blue screen of death. Today when I turned on my laptop, it brought up a black screen to do a three step check on the C: system. I then logged on and the blue screen appeared. I did a scan with McAfee and no virus were found.
Any suggestions on what to do? I've never encountered the blue screen before.
Answers:
As a last resort you might need to fdisk, reformat your Dell Inspiron n5010 laptop hard disk clean and reinstall OS. Before going that route, try following simple fixes to see if the problem goes away.
Remove the dell n5010 battery ( Compatible with inspiron 15r battery ) and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Dell Inspiron n5010 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on.
Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8, the computer ask you if you'd like to start in safe mode. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter. See if your Dell Inspiron n5010 laptop works normal.
If it runs normal now, do the following maintenance and tune up,
Uninstall unnecessary programs and applications.
Scan with a antivirus program
Scan with a spyware/malware program
DEFRAG C:
CHKDSK C:
Clean up and repair registry problems.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hp pavilion dv6 battery, laptop battery acer as09a31, pa3534u-1brs
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Use external harddrive for all your future downloads.
If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your Dell Inspiron n5010 laptop power cord or power source problem? Defective or insufficient power supply might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. The charger green/blue LED should be on. If not, replace the defective charger. Dell Inspiron n5010 laptop battery charger has its own limited lifespan and does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company

Wireless Switch Problems on Dell Inspiron N5010
Questions:
From time to time, an issue comes up where my wireless internet suddenly goes out, and I run the troubleshoot and it tells me that the wireless switch needs to be physically switched on. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.
I have no idea where this "switch" is, but when I restart, everything seems to work fine.
Is there something I can do to not have to restart whenever this happens? Thanks in advance.

Answers:
There is no Wireless Switch on the Inspiron N5010. To turn on wireless, you will need to hold down on the FN key, and tap the F2 key once, that's the wireless switch on your system.
I would suggest you to update the wireless card driver from our support site by usining the below link. Make sure to check which wireless card you have on your system, and then download it. You will find the wireless driver under network.

Dell Inspiron 15R N5010 Over Heating Problems
I was bought a new dell inspiron 15r n5010 laptop few days ago, And i'm happy with its performance.
Dell inspiron 15r n5010 specs:
CPU Core i7 Q740 1.73GHz
Ram 4GB DDR3
GPU ATI HD Radeon Mobility 5470 1GB (Up to 2737)
6 Cell 4400mAh Dell Inspiron N5010 Battery
--------------------------------
Acer Aspire 5741 Battery, Dell N5010 Battery
--------------------------------
But Recently I found that Its constantly overheating the GPU and the HDD. As I discovered in the 15R's overheating is a major problem due to Quanta (Dell doesn't manufacture laptops ıtself, they buy it from barebone manufacturers like Quanta and label it as Dell) making a bad design.
Even without playing any 3D games, the GPU temp is constantly around 60C (when playing wow it goes to 89C !), the HDD standard temp is about 48C (when playing it goes up to 55C). It becomes so hot that the heat on the touchpad can burn your fingers. No worries though...when the GPU temp reaches 92C system shuts itself off !
Who to solve the problems?
And i search the web, and found some solutions as below.
1)Go to the Dell for a Refund. If it is still under warranty.
2)Change the fan settings in the bios. But somebody says that there is no fan settings in BIOS. Its worse than barebones...
3)Replacing that hard drive. When you go to replace the drive you will need to pull the heat sync and system fan. You can make sure that you have a good seal at the processor and that there is nothing clogging either the fan or airway.
As shown in this video, its not very easy to open the 15R http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8wWVzSjaOk

How to upgrade Dell Inspiron N5010 CPU
Ok I know many people will tell me that Its not worth it but I'm going to ask anyway. I'm stuck at the moment with an N5010 that is slow for my needs and want to upgrade here are the current specs:
Processor: Intel Core i5 m460 2.53GHz
Ram: 4.00 GB
OS: Windows 7 64bit
The programs I run most often are: Photoshop CS5, Battlefield 3, World of Warcraft, and Office Suites.
The problem I'm running into is This computer is just too slow when running photoshop or games.I am a photography student and must have use of photoshop on a daily basis but don't have the $ right now to throw at a high end laptop. My first thought was to upgrade to 8gb DDR3. My second was can I upgrade to the newer faster i7 processor? If so where is the best place to find one for my 5010? What else might I be able to change to run these things more smoothly without spending $1000+ on a new laptop right now?

Answers:
Do you know which GPU you have? The Intel HD graphics should run WoW just fine, but NOT BF3. Even mid range cards struggle to play above medium. Photoshop you should consider a quad core CPU and additional RAM. However the N5010's cooling system can barely handle 35 watt dual core CPU's, not to mention the quad cores. Also if you have Intel HD graphics, you cannot go to quad core i7's as they do not have integrated graphics on the CPU die, you could only upgrade if you have the 5450M or 5650/550V graphics.
Answers2:
No there is very minimal difference between dual core i7 and i5 you currently have. Maybe a slight difference for rendering/compiling, but you'd be better off with more cores than faster clock speeds. Maybe sell your laptop and purchase another one? It's up to you.

Slowdown Issues on Dell Inspiron N5010
Slowdown Issues on Dell Inspiron N5010
I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop with the following config
Core i3 Processsor
4 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 512 MB Graphics Card
Until a few days ago the laptop was able to play most games including FIFA 11 & COD:MW2 on medium to high settings while maintaining a constant Frame rate of 60 (detected using FRAPS).
But now every game slows down and lags a lot and the frame rate drops down to 20-30 while on A/C power. As soon as the power cord is removed and the laptop begins to run on battery power (Dell Inspiron N5010 Battery), Frame rate increases and it runs smoothly again.
Please help. I've searched through this forum but I can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem.

Answers 1:. Check your power settings to make sure you are running at full performance when plugged in. It sounds like your system is throttling back on power, when it should be the opposite.
Answers 2: There may be an issue with your PSU (charger). Dell laptops have a little oddity, when the computer detects a non-dell psu, it will throttle back the CPU. This feature has been integrated into dell laptops for quite some time. I have seen some Dell laptops do this when plugged into the factory PSU. Run the Dell Diagnostics at start up. The program should tell you if there is an issue with your power supply.
Answers 3: Check your Catalyst Control Center settings... Do you remember installing any software or receiving any updates about the time your issue started occurring?

Inspiron N5010 Battery Issue
Dell Inspiron N5010 Battery Issue
------------------------------------------Buy cheap dell inspiron n5010 battery pack
------------------------------------------
Questions:
I recently bought a dell inspiron n5010 with "i5 M460 - 4 GB ram - ATI 550v 1 gb dedicated -HD 500 5400 rpm" 6 cell dell battery, When I fully charge this dell inspiron n5010 6cell battery to 100% and remove the AC supply suddenly it tells me that battery is 96% or somtimes 93% why this happens ? shouldn't it be 100% ? And what about its life time ? with browsing and power saver mode ( extended battery life mode ) it takes 2 hr 15 min to discharge to its 10% with me is this good or there is something wrong ? last thing I want to ask about the best way to take good care to the laptop battery ? should i remove AC when battery is 100 % ? thank you.
Answers:
3 hours that's actually pretty good for a laptop. You see, the amount of working hours will very much depends on the processor's power. If you need a long working time with battery, you might look into getting a 9 cell n5010 battery. With that set up I am sure the discharge time is normal. A replacement dell inspiron n5010 battery as a spare one, dispose more, cost less.

Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop work without battery
Questions :
I've just bought a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop this week and i wanted to know if this laptop can work by just using the AC Adapter and without the dell n5010 battery. If can, is it safe to use like this?
Answers:
Yes, It dose. All dell inspiron laptops I have ever used, including several models of Dell Inspirons, work fine with the dell inspiron battery removed. The circuitry is designed such that you can run it off of A/C power. It is actually recommended that if you use a laptop as a desktop replacement, that you remove the inspiron n5010 battery and run it on A/C power only, because this helps preserve the life of the battery. The only concern is if the plug gets knocked out, then you have an unexpected shutdown, but if you're careful you'll be fine.
Answers 2:
Yes, it can work without a battery, just as all other laptops.
However from a point of safety, the hardware should not care that much as long as there are no power spikes. However if you are doing something important, I suggest you have the battery in or save it constantly, or both, to avoid data loss.

Dell Inspiron N5010 Overview
Dell's Inspiron 15R N5010 is a 15in notebook with an appealing design and a well rounded configuration. Plenty of RAM and hard drive space make the Dell Inspiron 15R N5010 a good option for anyone who wants a notebook that can also be used as a desktop replacement computer. However, its build quality could be better, as we noticed some annoying creaking in its base, and its screen suffered from shimmering when viewed from certain angles.
This Dell Inspiron N5010 weighs 2.6kg and is aimed at users who want something that can be comfortably used on their lap, as well as act as a replacement for a desktop replacement.
