How to upgrade Dell Inspiron N5010 CPU

Ok I know many people will tell me that Its not worth it but I'm going to ask anyway. I'm stuck at the moment with an N5010 that is slow for my needs and want to upgrade here are the current specs:

Processor: Intel Core i5 m460 2.53GHz
Ram: 4.00 GB
OS: Windows 7 64bit

The programs I run most often are: Photoshop CS5, Battlefield 3, World of Warcraft, and Office Suites.

The problem I'm running into is This computer is just too slow when running photoshop or games.I am a photography student and must have use of photoshop on a daily basis but don't have the $ right now to throw at a high end laptop. My first thought was to upgrade to 8gb DDR3. My second was can I upgrade to the newer faster i7 processor? If so where is the best place to find one for my 5010? What else might I be able to change to run these things more smoothly without spending $1000+ on a new laptop right now?

Do you know which GPU you have? The Intel HD graphics should run WoW just fine, but NOT BF3. Even mid range cards struggle to play above medium. Photoshop you should consider a quad core CPU and additional RAM. However the N5010's cooling system can barely handle 35 watt dual core CPU's, not to mention the quad cores. Also if you have Intel HD graphics, you cannot go to quad core i7's as they do not have integrated graphics on the CPU die, you could only upgrade if you have the 5450M or 5650/550V graphics.

No there is very minimal difference between dual core i7 and i5 you currently have. Maybe a slight difference for rendering/compiling, but you'd be better off with more cores than faster clock speeds. Maybe sell your laptop and purchase another one? It's up to you.

Slowdown Issues on Dell Inspiron N5010

Slowdown Issues on Dell Inspiron N5010

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop with the following config
Core i3 Processsor
4 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 512 MB Graphics Card

Until a few days ago the laptop was able to play most games including FIFA 11 & COD:MW2 on medium to high settings while maintaining a constant Frame rate of 60 (detected using FRAPS).
But now every game slows down and lags a lot and the frame rate drops down to 20-30 while on A/C power. As soon as the power cord is removed and the laptop begins to run on battery power (Dell Inspiron N5010 Battery), Frame rate increases and it runs smoothly again.

Please help. I've searched through this forum but I can't seem to find anyone with a similar problem.

Answers 1:. Check your power settings to make sure you are running at full performance when plugged in. It sounds like your system is throttling back on power, when it should be the opposite.

Answers 2: There may be an issue with your PSU (charger). Dell laptops have a little oddity, when the computer detects a non-dell psu, it will throttle back the CPU. This feature has been integrated into dell laptops for quite some time. I have seen some Dell laptops do this when plugged into the factory PSU. Run the Dell Diagnostics at start up. The program should tell you if there is an issue with your power supply.

Answers 3: Check your Catalyst Control Center settings... Do you remember installing any software or receiving any updates about the time your issue started occurring?

install Mac os x on Dell Inspiron N5010

Questions :
I'm planning on hackintoshing my Dell inspiron n5010 (dell n5010 extended battery, Dell Inspiron N5010 Batteri) in a day or two, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find any solid, followable start-to-finish guide to installing OS X86 on my exact laptop. I'm new to this, so I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me out! My specs are as follows: Intel Core i3 Processor i3-350M (2.26GHz, 3MB L2 Cache) 3GB Memory 320GB SATA Hard drive Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD integrated GPU

I suggest you start here at the OS X 86 project:

The site has a compilation of hardware compatibility and the kexts needed. Be prepared for a lot of trial and error.
