Dell Inspiron Laptop - slow boot - Windows 7

Questions: I have a Dell Inspiron with 2.5 GHz processor and 4 GB of RAM. My version of Win 7 is 64-bit. I have done the following to try to speed up the boot:
- stopped/disabled unnecessary processes and startup programs
- updated all of my drivers
- updated all Win 7 files
Now, I cannot download Windows Update (I get error code 80246008 and I have checked to make sure Background Intelligence Transfer is on) AND every time I boot up my sound icon has a red "X" next to it, and so I have to troubleshoot that. I have no idea what sound card I have.

Solutions:
Step 1. Open Notepad
Step 2. Copy and paste the following command lines into the Notepad window (the /s switch runs the commands silently, freeing you from having to press Enter after each line):
regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll
Step 3. Save the file to your desktop, using a .bat or .cmd extension.
Step 4. Double-click the icon of the .bat or .cmd file.
Step 5. A command window will open, run the commands, and then close.

  2. Having the same problem. I have an older HP G60 With that i upgraded to an Intel T9300 Dual Core and 4gb of DDR-2 running Windows 7 Pro that is Waaay faster than the newer Dell Inspiron N5010 with 3gb DDR-3 and an Intel Quad core i3?? I shut all unnecessary services off and start up programs etc and it is still way slower than the HP.
    I DO NOT KNOW WHY.
